I am probably the only person ...
... to knit a sock during a performance by Chuck D.
I don't know if I've ever read anything by Nikki Giovanni before, but now I really must find one of her books.
I almost didn't go, but this post, plus a colleague who decided to join me, sealed the deal. I'm glad I went. I should do things like this more often.
(This is the before photo. The second sock is about an inch longer now.)
The MLK event on Friday night was great. A wonderful line-up of artists who talked about their work and then read their poetry, performed music, etc.I don't know if I've ever read anything by Nikki Giovanni before, but now I really must find one of her books.

Hmm, there was an author/music event in St Paul at the Fitzgerald Theater with Chuck D and there MAY have been knitters there. The Fitz is like that. :) Sounds like a really cool event.

A new milestone in sock knitting! Excellent.
I've never read any Giovanni either, but I remember hearing her speak when I was a college freshman (which partially explains why I didn't rush out and buy her books: too much required reading) and being struck by her saying, "People are always asking me, what is the role of the black woman in American society today? And I say, what is this role thing? This ain't no play, honey, this is your life."
(The above quote from 30+-year-old memory. My apologies to Giovanni if I got it wrong.)

WAIT! How did I not know that you saw Nikki Giovanni AND Sonia Sanchez in one night??? Seriously? I love both of them. Have we never talked about that? Oh, remind me next week.
